About Us
The Women Lawyers Association is a non-profit association acting in public interest, incorporated on July 6th 2014 and registered at the Central Registry of the Ministry of Justice under № 20141114002 on the grounds of art. 45, para.3 of the Non-Profit Legal Entities Act.
The association is also candidate for membership in the World Federation of Women with Legal Professions and has signed a cooperation protocol with the Women Lawyers Association of Milan.
The Association maintains permanent contact with the Supreme Lawyers Council, the Bulgarian National Radio as well as with other media and organizations.
In order to achieve its stated purpose, in its short history the association has organized and held a number of conferences, seminars and other initiatives, among them:
- Seminar „Women Leaders – Perspectives and Challenges” in 10/ 2014;
- Christmas Charity Bazar – December 2014г.;
- Seminar „The Bulgarian Bar Association in electronic medias“, Borovets, in March 2015;
- Round table with Israel women – lawyers on the topic of violence against women – June 2015
- by invitation of the deputy-president of the International Federation of Women Lawyers Aysen Onen, representatives of our Association and of the Sofia Bar Association took part in The International symposium, held in Istanbul in March 2015, dedicated to the Istanbul convention on the elimination of violence against women on topic „Protecting Women from Violence, According to the National, Regional and International Law”
Representatives of our Association are actively participating in projects related to combating violence in a broad sense as well as directly as active lawyers.
As of the moment, the Women Lawyers Association is working on the preparation and holding of an International conference in Sofia, on the topic of:
„International Day for Elimination of Violence Against Women and the Istanbul Convention – the Institutions, Media and Society United Against Violence”.
The conference has the aim to work in favor of Bulgaria’s signing and ratification of the Council of Europe Convention on preventing and combating violence against women and domestic violence, also called Istanbul Convention, suggested for signing on May 11th 2011 in Istanbul, Turkey, in force from August 1st 2014, as well as for European values and regulation system in general.
